Due to the recent impact of COVID-19 on school communities across the North Coast, the decision has been made to postpone the following North Coast Schools Sports Association events:

  • Secondary Mountain Biking on Friday 10 September 2021 at Jolly Nose Mountain Bike Park, Spring Creek Rd, Bonny Hills.

The health, safety and wellbeing of all school community members was at the centre of the decision to postpone these events and the North Coast Schools Sports Association would like to thank everyone involved in advance for their understanding. Further advice regarding the potential for rescheduling these events will be communicated at a later stage.

$20 payable to convener by cash/cheque on the day. 

Competitors from each School must be assessed by each School as having the appropriate level of bike handling skills suitable for a racing environment. The narrow nature of the tracks and moderate speeds make it unsuitable for beginners or inexperienced riders

Canteen: No Canteen available. Water will be available for competitors. All competitors asked to bring their own lunch and a water bottle.

Amenities: There are no showers, but toilets will be available on the day.

 

 Entries:

All entries MUST be submitted and approved by the Sports Coordinator and endorsed by the Principal of the student's school.

All entries MUST be completed on the Enclosed Entry Forms, attached to this document. These forms MUST be emailed to the North Coast School Sports Office by Wednesday 25 August 2021.

Equipment and safety:

Only mountain bicycles manufactured for off-road riding should be used and it is advised to have a service check prior to travelling to the venue. A pre-activity safety inspection must be conducted by each rider’s representative prior to use. This check must include brakes, tyres, gears, chains, handlebars and seats. Bikes will also be scrutineered by a qualified UCI Elite National Commissaire Mark White before the event

Bicycles that fail a mechanical inspection must not be used until such time as the repairs or adjustments have been made.

It’s recommended all participants have a basic tool kit containing spanners/allen keys to suit their particular bicycle, a puncture repair kit, a spare inner tube and pump. Students should wear clothing that is brightly coloured and close fitting, suit the weather conditions and strike a balance between ventilation and protection.

Closed footwear must be worn.

All participants must wear a helmet designed and manufactured for mountain bike activities that carries the Australian Standard for pedal cycle helmets (AS/NZ2063). The teacher-in-charge will check to ensure that the chin strap of each student’s helmet is securely fastened. Caps, hats etc. are not permitted to be worn under the helmet.

Additional safety equipment may include: gloves, knee/elbow pads Long or ¾ sleeve shirt and eye protection where appropriate.

 

Officials

Officials will hold National Coaching Accreditations Schemes (NCASs) in Mountain Biking.

 

Events/Schedule

7:30am: Sign in, collect race plate and have bike pass scrutineering

8:15am: Tracks race segments will be open for prerace practice and familiarisation

9.15am: till 1.30pm   Track racing segments open for timing to record times

2.00pm: Presentation

 

Competition Rules/Format:

Races will be run in an Enduro Style with 3 timed segments spread out in clearly marked segments in a defined area of the Jolly Nose Mountain Bike Park. Students can ride around the designated area at their leisure usually with other team members.  Students will come to a complete stop at the start area of each stage, there will be a minimum of 30 seconds between each rider at each start. Students are timed until they cross the dedicated finish point. Each time a rider completes a dedicated racing segment their time will be recorded. Students can complete each segment as many times as they choose however they must complete every stage at least once to get a finish time. Riders can be accompanied by teachers or adult supervisors. The three best times that each student records will be added together to determine placing in each division indicated. Each school team manager will be responsible for riders transponders and ensuring each transponder is returned at the end of the event. Lost transponders will incur a $100 fee.

 

Teacher/Volunteer Ratios

Each school must supply the following:

1 Teacher or nominated responsible adult to supervise

1 Volunteer (teacher, parent,) to help with the competition.

 

Other information and conditions

The Convener reserves the right to delete or change any segment on the day of competition if safety, weather conditions, time or other conditions warrant. All schools will be notified of any changes as soon as practical.

 

Schools are responsible for the issuing and collection of permission notices from parents.

 

The event will be run if raining lightly however may be cancelled if weather conditions are declared unsafe. If significant wet weather is forecast or the Tracks are deemed too wet, the Event will be postponed and early notice to Schools and competitors given.

 

Competitors are asked to stay within the defined areas of Jolly Nose MTB Park whilst competing. While there are many challenging trails nearby, students are asked not to attempt any Gravity style trails outside the competition zone. This is for the Safety of all competitors. Once competition is finished, you are welcome to explore the many fantastic trails in the Park
