Spectators

The secondary swimming championship is a ticketed event. Spectators will need to pre-purchase a ticket and present it on the day to gain entry into the event. Tickets will not be sold at the gate. Parking is available in P2 & P3.  Parking rates are set by SOPAC. 4 Hours free, then parking fees apply after.

Entry:

a)    All competitors must be members of zone teams.

b)    Zones are permitted to enter: A maximum of two (2) competitors and one (1) relay team per zone for each event. This also applies to para athlete events.   Requests for a second relay team may be made to the convener.

c)     Events will be swum in 2 heats. If there are an insufficient number of entrants then the event will be swum in one heat.

d)    A competitor may enter any number of individual events plus:

  • 200m Individual Medley
  • One Freestyle Age Relay
  • One Medley Relay
  • One Freestyle All Age Relay

  • 200m Freestyle
  • The 100m Fly,  200m IM and 200m FS events in each age group will be filled by the 10 fastest nominated times, regardless of the zone that the swimmer is from.
  • Swimmers can use a time from a recognised swimming club event or NSW swimming championships. Swimmers may use their time from a 2022 school carnival.  Times not be older than 12 months. Times are to be long course. Times will be verified with NSW swimming records.

  • Relays - All to be school teams only. Please note rule - "Students may swim in one freestyle age relay event only - at their own age or  at a higher age group".

f)      Swimmers who wish to be considered for entry in the 800m Freestyle, 400 Freestyle and 400m Individual Medley events at NSWCHSSA must submit a qualifying time entry form (PDF 13KB) to the Sydney West convener in writing by midday on the day of the carnival. Please note that the 400m event is swum in the following age groups - 12-14 years, 15-16 years and 17+ years.

Officials: Applications are called for officials. The swimming officials teacher application form must be completed and returned by email  - sydwestsport@det.nsw.edu.au 4 weeks prior to the event. Officials must be available for the duration of the championship. As per the constitution, each school must provide 1 teacher official this may include the team manager These teachers must complete an application and return. Retired teachers are welcome to submit an application but priority will be given to teachers currently in schools. Retired teachers must also provide a copy of their current WWCC letter and their Mandatory Child Protection Training Certificate 2021 with their nomination. Managers are the only ones allowed on pool deck during the championships. No parents and/or spectators are permitted in this area.

Coaching: Once competitors are in the hands of the marshal coaching is not permitted. The penalty will be disqualification.

Protests: Must be submitted in writing by zone team managers.

Athletes with a disability:

(a) The NSWCHS encourages students with intellectual, physical and sensory disabilities to participate in the swimming program. All students should compete at their zone carnival prior to completing at the Sydney West swimming championships. Zone entries must include all Para Athlete entries. Students must ensure that they have a current classification with the appropriate body.  Zone conveners should forward a copy of their student's classification documentation with the zone team entries. (b) Swimmers with a disability who wish to be considered for entry in the 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke or 200 IM multi class events at the NSWCHSSA Swimming Championships must submit a qualifying time entry form to the Sydney West convener in writing by midday on the day of the carnival.  Forms are available for download here SWSSA Secondary Swimming Consideration Of Entry Mulit Class Events (PDF 142KB).   Please note that the events will be swum in the following age groups - 12-15 years and 16-19 years

Further Information

  • Swimsuits - All swimmers must compete in one swimsuit only (no underwear may be worn under this swimsuit). Speedsuits shall have the FINA approval label on them.
  • Entries are via zone conveners as well as nominations for the events indicated.
  • Points will be awarded for the first 15 places. Relays receive double points
  • Each competitor must wear a Zone swim cap in order to compete. A school swim cap can be used for relays.

Knockout Relay: The final of the Sydney West SSA Swimming Knockout will be swum on the day. Please refer to the program for further details. The winning school will represent Sydney West SSA in the NSWCHSSA Finals at NSWCHSSA Swimming Championships. Each zone may enter one team.

NSWCHSSA Championship: A Sydney West team will be selected at the conclusion of the trial to participate at the NSWCHSSA Swimming Championships on Wednesday 3rd May - Friday 5th May 2023 at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre. Requests for injury and illness will not be considered. Students wishing to gain selection in the team must compete at the Sydney West Championships. Students selected in the Sydney West team will be expected to make their own travel arrangements to the NSWCHS Swimming Championships.
