4.8 Cross Country - NSWCHSSA Championships
4.8.1 Championship rules
The NSW All Schools Championship will be incorporated into the NSWCHSSA Championships and will include separate medal recognitions.
(a) Entry to be on an association basis only.
Associations may run a maximum of ten (10) runners with eight (8) runners counting towards the final point score.
(b) The championship shall be conducted over the following distances:

Competitors must compete in their own age group. With the exception of ISF schools team members. Competitors in the school team event must be 14, 15, 16 or 17 years of age in the year of competition and will compete in the 17 years event. Age is how old a competitor is as at 31 December in the year of competition. No competitor can turn 20 years in the year of competition.
(c) Competitors must have their association number clearly displayed on front and back of team shirt/singlet.
(d) All competitors must wear shoes.
(e) The first three individual placegetters shall receive medals.
(f) The NSW All Schools Secondary male and female teams are selected to compete at the SSA/AA Championships as follows:
(i) 12/13 years up to the fastest seven (7) times from the 12 and 13 years age divisions
(ii) 14/15 years up to the fastest eight (8) times from the 14 and 15 years age divisions
(iii) 16/17 years up to the fastest eight (8) times from the 16 and 17 years age divisions
(iv) 18/19 years up to the fastest six (6) times from the 18+ years age division
(v) Two (2) more athletes may be selected at the discretion of the state selectors to make a team size of sixty (60). Applications for these positions will not be accepted.
(g) Spectators and coaches are not allowed to run alongside a competitor at any time.
(h) All protests must be lodged in writing to the state convener from the team manager within fifteen minutes of the conclusion of the event.
(i) Protest committee to consist of: out of stadia umpire, state convener, plus one other.
(j) Individuals competing in ISF school teams will also be representing their association and consequently counting towards association point scores.
(k) ISF school team runners will wear a different colour number.
(l) An athlete who does not compete at the NSWCHSSA Championships may only be included in the team, if he/ she is competing at a National or International Track and Field/ Cross Country/ Triathlon or Mountain Running as part of a recognised ANSW or AA Team at the time of selection and has given prior notice to the state convener / selection panel requesting consideration. This notification must be made to the state convener, no later than two weeks (14 days) prior to the date of the championships.
(m) Multi-Class Athletes
To be eligible to compete, a Multi-Class athlete must meet the following criteria.
Each association will be eligible to enter 3 competitors per event, per gender to compete at the state championships.
All Multi-Class athletes at the secondary level will run in a combined event over a distance of 3 km for all ages. (i.e. 13 Year’s – 18+ Years all run – 3km)
Each Multi-Class athlete must compete in their association uniform.
Each Multi-Class athlete must have at least a national provisional classification by the governing body to compete at the state championship. The governing bodies, classification categories and how classifications are verified are as follows:

Athletes must be listed on the Master List (AUSRAPID Sport Inclusion Australia or Athletics Australia) for Intellectual, Physical, Vision or Transplant classifications. A letter from Deaf Sports Australia (with code AU2) for the Hearing impaired classification is to be sent to the School Sports Unit at least 14 days prior to the State Championship. Athletes who do not meet these classification requirements will be ineligible to compete at the state Cross Country championships.
Placings for all Multi-Class events will be determined using the multi-disability formula set by Athletics Australia for 1500m races in relation to the athlete’s classification.
All percentages for all disability classes will be calculated and the highest percentage wins, second highest second etc.
Each state/territory is entitled to enter three (3) athletes in each age/gender division at the School Sport Australia Championships provided the qualifying standards and classification standards have been met.
Note – eligible students must choose prior to competing whether they will compete as a Multi-Class athlete or as an abled bodied athlete. If competing as a Multi-Class athlete they must complete the classification documentation.
Classifications Eligible for State Championship
- Intellectually Disabled – ID (T20, T21); or
- Hearing Impaired – HI (T01); or
- Physical Impairment (PI). This will be restricted to:
- Visually Impaired – T11, T12 and T13. T11 athletes must run with a guide and T12 and T13 athletes can elect to have a sighted guide runner. See Sighted Guide guidelines; or
- Cerebral Palsy – T35, T36, T37 or T38 or;
- Dwarfism – T40 and T41 are both subject to a medical clearance or
- Amputee T42, 43, 44, 45, 46 (NO PROSTHESES) or;
- Amputee T60 (Medical clearance is required prior to competing) or;
- Amputee T62 (Medical clearance is required prior to competing) (WITH PROSTHESES) or;
- Amputee T63 (Medical clearance is required prior to competing) (WITH PROSTHESES) or;
- Amputee T64 (Medical clearance is required prior to competing) (WITH PROSTHESES).
