I am honoured to have been recently appointed as Leader School Sport Unit and look forward to assisting colleagues with the provision of sport and physical activity options for our students. There is much to be proud of in our work and I encourage everyone to be advocates for our programs.
The August eNewsletter provides a wealth of information across all School Sport Unit programs. Could I highlight the many and varied Professional Learning opportunities that are on offer for staff which are designed to increase both skillset and confidence.
The School Sport website continues to be a valuable resource for schools, teachers and students and I encourage everyone to provide feedback and eNewsletter stories by emailing schoolsportunit@det.nsw.edu.au

Sport Climbing is performed on artificial climbing walls to which interchangeable holds are attached. These are purpose-built walls which are usually located in climbing gyms and other sport and recreational facilities.
In recreational climbing, school-aged students generally engage in the sport in one of three ways;
- Top-Rope Climbing - the climber’s safety is ensured by a rope through an anchor point above them which is controlled at all times by a partner or by using an auto-belay unit.
- Bouldering - the climber climbs unroped to a maximum height of 4.5m above safety mats.
- Traversing – the climber climbs horizontally, close to the ground above a soft-fall surface.
You must refer to the Requirements for All Sport and Physical Activity to understand your overall compliance responsibilities.
