Stephen Clough, Larnook Public School

Steve is Principal of Larnook Public School, a small rural school located approximately 30km north west of Lismore. He has been heavily involved in school sport, at all levels, throughout his career.

Steve drives many sporting initiatives and programs within his school. In 2017, Larnook PS had 100% participation in the Premiers Sporting Challenge where students and staff record and track their physical activity over a 10 week period as they aim to be more active, more often. Last year, Larnook PS also continued their commitment to ensuring all students learn water safety and survival skills, so that they can enjoy aquatic activities, by taking part in the School Swimming and Water Safety Program.

Larnook PS joins with neighbouring small schools to form the Terania District that competes at zone carnivals for swimming, cross country and athletics, and enters teams in State PSSA Knockout competitions in a variety of sports. Steve coordinates, leads and coaches many of these events and teams throughout the school year providing students with wonderful sporting experiences and opportunities.

In addition to the work Steve does with students within Larnook PS, and the local small school learning community, he is always generous with his time mentoring teaching colleagues to ensure his vast knowledge and skills in school sport will be utilised for many years to come.

Steve is also heavily involved within the representative pathway of school sport. In 2017 he was an Athletics team manager for Northern Rivers Zone. At regional level he was the North Coast Boys Softball team manager, taking 14 talented softballers to a successful State Championship in Camden. In September last year, all of Steve’s school sporting passion and experience was on display as carnival manager for the NSWPSSA Girls Softball State Championship held in Lismore, being the first person on site each morning setting up the playing fields, and the last to leave after emptying the bins and cleaning the facilities.

Congratulations Steve for your nomination and thank you for all that you do to provide students and staff with fantastic opportunities.
